# Scheduling

# Scheduling Articles

Schedule articles to publish automatically at a future date and time.

---

## Overview

Article scheduling allows you to:

- Write content in advance
- Plan content calendars
- Publish at optimal times
- Maintain consistent posting schedules

---

## How to Schedule an Article

1. Navigate to **Content > Blog posts**
2. Click **Add blog post** or edit an existing article
3. Set status to **Scheduled** in the Publishing panel
4. Enter the **Publish Date & Time**
5. Click **Create** (or **Update**)

---

## Scheduling Settings

### Status

Select **Scheduled** from the status dropdown. The date field appears only for this status.

### Publish Date & Time

A single date-and-time field for when the article should publish. Your timezone is shown directly beneath it.

**Important:** always fill this in. An article saved as Scheduled with an empty date is never picked up for publishing, and it will sit in the Scheduled state indefinitely.

---

## Timezone Handling

### Your Timezone

The scheduling field is interpreted in your account's timezone, and converted to UTC for storage.

**Example:** If you're in Eastern Time and schedule for 9:00 AM, the article publishes at 9:00 AM Eastern, regardless of where your server is located.

### Changing Your Timezone

1. Open the user menu and go to **Profile**
2. Update **Timezone Settings**
3. Save changes

Scheduled times will display in your new timezone.

---

## Auto-Publishing

Scheduled articles publish automatically:

- The system checks every minute for scheduled articles whose date has passed
- Status changes to **Published**, and the scheduled date becomes the publish date
- Article becomes visible on your store

**No action required** - publishing happens automatically.

---

## Managing Scheduled Articles

### Viewing Scheduled Articles

1. Navigate to **Content > Blog posts**
2. Use the status filter to show **Scheduled** articles
3. View the scheduled date for each article

### Rescheduling

1. Edit the scheduled article
2. Change the date/time
3. Save

### Publishing Early

To publish a scheduled article immediately:

1. Edit the article
2. Change status to **Published**
3. Save

The article goes live straight away, but it keeps the date you originally scheduled it for — so it displays a future date and sorts to the top of the blog until that date passes. To publish it with today's date instead, save it as **Draft** first (which clears the date), then save it again as **Published**.

### Canceling Scheduled Publication

To keep an article unpublished:

1. Edit the article
2. Change status to **Draft**
3. Save

Switching to Draft clears the publish date, so re-scheduling means picking a new date.

---

## Status Indicators

| Badge | Meaning |
|-------|---------|
| **Draft** (gray) | Not scheduled, not published |
| **Scheduled** (amber) | Will publish at scheduled time |
| **Published** (green) | Live on your store |

---

## Best Practices

### Plan Ahead

- Schedule content weeks in advance
- Maintain a consistent posting schedule
- Use scheduling to align with marketing campaigns

### Optimal Timing

- Research when your audience is most active
- Consider time zones of your customer base
- Test different posting times

### Review Before Publishing

- Preview articles before scheduling
- Double-check publication dates
- Ensure all images and links work

### Content Calendar

- Keep a calendar of scheduled content
- Avoid scheduling too many articles on the same day
- Plan around holidays and events

---

## Troubleshooting

### Article Didn't Publish

If an article didn't publish at the scheduled time:

1. Open the article and confirm the **Publish Date & Time** field is not empty — a Scheduled article with no date never publishes
2. Verify the status is still **Scheduled** (not Draft)
3. Confirm the date has actually passed in your timezone; publishing runs once a minute, so allow a minute or two either way

### Wrong Time Published

If the article published at the wrong time:

1. Check your account timezone setting
2. Verify you selected the correct time
3. Remember times display in your local timezone
