# Discounts

Create discount codes to offer customers savings at checkout.

---

## Discount Types

| Type | Description |
|------|-------------|
| **Percentage** | Percentage discount (e.g., 10% off) |
| **Fixed Amount** | Dollar amount discount (e.g., $10 off) |

---

## Creating a Discount

1. Navigate to **Store > Discounts**
2. Click **Create Discount**
3. Enter a title (used to identify the discount in your admin)
4. Review the discount code — one is generated for you, and you can edit it or generate a new one
5. Select type (Percentage or Fixed Amount)
6. Enter discount value
7. Configure settings
8. Save

Discount codes are stored in uppercase and must be unique within your store.

---

## Discount Settings

### Basic Settings

| Setting | Description |
|---------|-------------|
| **Title** | Internal name for the discount (required) |
| **Code** | The code customers enter at checkout |
| **Discount Type** | Percentage or Fixed Amount |
| **Value** | Discount amount or percentage |

### Applies To

Choose what the discount applies to:

| Option | Description |
|--------|-------------|
| **Store Wide** | The entire order |
| **Product** | One or more specific products |
| **Collection** | One or more specific collections |
| **Customer** | A specific customer |

For Product, Collection, and Customer you search for and select the items the discount is limited to.

### Free Shipping

Toggle **Free Shipping** to add a free shipping option to the order when the code is applied. At checkout it appears as a shipping option labelled "Courtesy of discount code: *YOURCODE*".

---

## Usage Limits

### Usage Limit

Set a maximum number of uses across all customers. Once the code has been used that many times, it stops working.

### Active Dates

Set when the discount is valid:

- **Start Date** - When the discount becomes active
- **End Date** - When the discount expires

Both are optional. Leave them blank for a code with no scheduled start or end.

---

## Minimum Requirements

Optionally set a **Minimum Purchase Amount** (e.g., $100) that the order must reach for the code to be valid.

---

## Managing Discounts

### Viewing Discounts

Navigate to **Store > Discounts** to see all discount codes with:

- ID
- Title
- Code
- Type
- Status
- Times used

You can search the list to find a specific discount.

### Discount Status

| Status | Meaning |
|--------|---------|
| **Active** | Enabled and currently valid |
| **Scheduled** | Enabled, but the start date is in the future |
| **Expired** | Enabled, but the end date has passed |
| **Inactive** | Disabled |

### Editing Discounts

1. Open the actions menu (three dots) on the discount row
2. Select **Edit**
3. Make changes
4. Save

### Enabling/Disabling

From the actions menu, choose **Disable** or **Activate** to turn the discount off or on without deleting it.

### Deleting Discounts

1. Open the actions menu on the discount row
2. Select **Delete**
3. Confirm

---

## Customer Experience

At checkout:

1. Customer enters the code in the **Discount code** field
2. Clicks **Apply**
3. Discount is applied to the order and the savings are shown

Only one discount code can be applied to an order at a time — applying a second code replaces the first. If the code is invalid, expired, not yet active, or has hit its usage limit, the customer sees a message explaining why.
